As we danced across the floor, I soon realized that I looked like an ugly duck amongst beautiful ballerina "swans".

I had just moved here from Toronto, and although I thought I had an idea of what ballet was supposed to look like, I knew at that moment I was wrong.

Even though embarrassed, I knew that "something" had touched my soul. And, more importantly, I had found my ballet home.

Artistic Director

For the first time in nine years. Circus will be performed again at the Irvine Barclay and I am now amongst the company that I had once only dreamed about being a part of. And now, dancing with me, I am followed by a new generation of pink ponies. Although there have been dozens of performances in between, this upcoming one is perhaps the most dear to my heart.

Six months after the audition, I performed with the company as a pink pony at the Irvine Barclay Theatre in a piece called "Circus". In the awe of performing in such a beautiful theatre amongst the senior company members, I was inspired to one day be able to dance like them.

I am planning on transferring to a university this fall and it is possible that this will be my last performance as a company member. Regardless of where the future takes me, I will always hold this company very dear to my heart. Through my experiences here, I have not only grown as a dancer but as a person. Ballet has taught me how to dream, conquer fear, get up from defeat, question my inner self and have the ability to share my talent with an audience.

The motto of The Ballet Montmartre is "developing the dancers of tomorrow". I look forward to sharing a stage this upcoming April with this new generation of young ballerinas who will continue the journey I too started when I was their age. Under Miss Stela's talented guidance, I have been molded from that little pink pony into the artist that I am today, and as I take center stage at the Barclay this April, the audience will know that the dreams of a once ugly duckling can come true, as this swan has now landed.
